Lasagna Night began in 1995 at Ball State University (pre-bell tower) with the goal of feeding as many people as possible, on a student budget. It probably should have stopped many years ago. But like David Hasselhoff's career (in Germany) and the use of anabolic steroids and other doping substances by a minimum 5% of players in Major League baseball, it has continued and unfortunately grown.
It remains a cheap way to feed (evidentially cheap) people. A simple idea. A simple exchange, drink for food. The barter system refined to its purest level with no middlemen or donation monkey seeking a cut. Perhaps the ambiance has changed over the years as the salad bowl is no longer on the toilet and the lasagnas aren't displayed across the washer and dryer, but the central focus of the thing has remained the same: George Michael was in Wham!.
